Fiction Friday: Mistborn

The books that currently have my attention are the Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson, what a name.

I finished book one a couple of weeks ago. What I like about the series is that while it is a fantasy the magic sometimes feels like you’re learning science. It does take a bit of getting your head around.

Without wanting to give too much away, the people in this fantasy world perform magic by ingesting metal and then burning it in their stomachs. Different metals have different effects, such as increased strength or better hearing, or weirder things that you’ll just have to read the book to discover.

The series starts off with the main character not knowing anything about this magic, it seems like she and the other characters will find out more throughout the series. It is all very shrouded in mystery.

Here are some of my favourite excerpts, if I finish the second book by next Friday I will do the same with that.

Belief isn’t simply a thing for fair times and bright days, I think. What is belief – what is faith – if you don’t continue in it after failure?
